Is fish oil safe for pregnancy?

I've bought a DHA-focused fish oil for my pregnant wife as I heard that DHA during pregnancy is beneficial for the infant's brain. However, my wife is reluctant to take it because she heard that taking fish oil is not safe, and also redundant as she already takes a pregnancy multi-vitamin (Elevit). Is this true? It is hard to tell by searching online because some says DHA is good for pregnancy and some other says it's bad. I would really appreciate if someone makes it clear for us. Thanks in advance for your advice!
