Immunoglobulin therapy for primary immunodeficiency disease in Canberra

I just moved to Canberra on a work visa 457. My son is 10 years old and requires immunoglobulin therapy every 6-8 weeks. My insurance provider advised me to meet a GP to get the item number and quote for this product. Any suggestions about a GP in Canberra who can help me with this?

Depending on the indication for immunoglobulin replacement therapy you may need to see an immunologist. In Australia you can see specialists in the public system (public hospitals) or privately (private hospital or a clinic run as a separate business). For your specific issue I would recommend identifying an immunologist who has access to an infusion unit that can provide blood products (you can do this by calling the clinic and asking for this specifically). I think probably the easiest way to communicate the costs to your insurer would be to contact the infusion unit directly to get the quotation. But you still need to have a specialist prescribe the medication before you do that.
