Why do I have low iron levels and ulcerative colitis?

I constantly have low iron levels so every now and again I'm booked in to get iron infusion, my last blood test shows my iron level is low again and it's 8 what can I do to keep my levels in normal range? I don't tolerate iron tablets I eat red meat but not as much as I should as I found it hard to digest with my ulcerative colitis. What can I do to get levels in normal range?

Iron deficiency can be associated with inflammatory bowel disease. Good disease control will help with iron loss from the UC. There may be other reasons for iron deficiency. I would suggest you speak to your doctor about excluding other causes of iron loss (eg heavy periods) or poor absorption.
