    Can anxiety cause digestive problems?

    Counselling Psychologist, Counsellor, Psychologist, Psychotherapist

The mind and body are strongly connected. With this being the case, anxiety/stress has physical effects on the body. Upset within the stomach and rest of the digestive tract can result from anxiety/stress. Therefore, taking steps to reduce the amount of stress and anxiety you experience, can have the knock-on effect of reducing the problems you experience with your digestive system. A psychologist can assist you to develop strategies for this.

It should be noted that other medical conditions can also lead to one experiencing digestive problems. Therefore, you should see your GP to determine whether there may be a different underlying cause to problems you experience.
