    Hi there,

Sore and/or swollen Achilles which you described is often referred to as Achilles tendonitis and is quite common when commencing a walking/running programme or increasing training load.

Ensuring that you have correctly fitted shoes, walking on softer surfaces (grass), reducing your walking load and stretching your calf muscles may help. Also take a look at http://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/bhcv2/bhcarticles.nsf/pages/Achilles_tendonitis

If the issue persists it is best to visit your local physiotherapist.
