Lettuce is certainly low in kilojoules and is therefore a good food to eat when wanting to loose weight. I don't think there is anything magical about lettuce and eating more of it won't necessarily mean a greater weight loss. However, swapping a ham sandwich for a ham salad with plenty of raw vegetables is likely to result in fewer kilojoules being eaten which will help weight managment. Lettuce and other leafy salad leaves do contain very small amounts protein, fat and carbohydrates and also contain a range of vitamins and minerals such as folate, potassium, magnesium, vitamin C etc, which all contribute to a healthy diet. Dark green leaves contain higher amounts compared to the pale leaves.
