Are my neck and arm itchiness due to menopause?

I am 49 and recently getting severe itchiness on my neck and arms which normally starts in the middle of the night. Could this be due to to menopause and what medication should I be taking? I have consulted a doctor and taken all the necessary allergy precautions but the itchiness continues.

This symptom can definitely be caused by menopausal hot flushes during the night. There are many ways of dealing with this medically including HRT and homeopathics and your choice will probably be determined by what other bothersome symptoms you have and your philiosophy re HRT. Wearing open neck night wear and lighter covering may be helpful.

I would suggest you talk to a GP interested in women's health to discuss peri-menopause more fully.
