In children, urinary tract infections are caused either by a structural problem within the urinary system or a bacteria finding its way to the bladder or kidneys.
These can be structural problems within the bladder, like congenital issues or bacteria related. Normally, there are no bacteria in the urinary tract itself. However, certain things can make it easier for bacteria to enter or stay in the urinary tract.
Children can also suffer from cystitis urinary infections. In diabetics and immuno-compromised patients, fungi such as candida and viruses account for a significant percentage of urinary tract infections.
