Astigmatism is very common.  Most people who wear glasses have some degree of astigmatism.  Even people who do not require glasses often have a very mild degree of astigmatism.  Astigmatism describes the asymmetrical curvature of the cornea or the lens.  It is the degree of this asymmetrical curvature and the subsequent blur or night glare this may cause which determines whether the astigmatism requires correction.
