There are a number of methods to quit smoking, many are ‘tried and tested’ and highly successful.
Most popular method I believe, is ‘cold turkey’, toss the packet in the bin, and maintain your resolve to abstain. Some people find it easier to cut back gradually, over a number of weeks or months until they quit. Hypnotherapy is another natural option that has become more popular in recent times. Other options are nicotine gum, nicotine patches or other similar nicotine replacements, however these may carry side effects that you should investigate first. Because we are all different, we need to find what will suit our individual needs or lifestyle.

Research supports hypnosis as a beneficial drug-free method to help people become non-smokers. In recent times, study after study shows that ‘smoking patients’ who participated in hypnotherapy sessions were more likely to be non-smokers at 6 months compared with patients using nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) alone, or patients who quit “cold turkey”. Research paper published in ScienceDaily (Oct. 24, 2007) clearly indicates that
hypnotherapy for smoking cessation sees strong results. Patients who smoke and require surgery, may also be more likely to quit smoking through the use of hypnotherapy than patients using other smoking cessation methods.

As Mark Twain said over a century ago, “Giving up smoking is the easiest thing in the world. I know because I've done it thousands of times”. Any method that works is the right method, but one of the quickest and permanent ways to quit smoking is hypnotherapy. The process addresses the issue at a subconscious level which is where all of our habits and memories are stored. There's an actual disconnect in the neural pathways when the the hypnosis is successful and because it's the clients own goal it usually is successful.

What worked for me was a combination of nicotine patches (I started off on a high dose and tapered down over some months) plus keeping tabs on the money that I saved by not smoking.

Every so often I would (and still do) “reward” myself with a treat (a nice restaurant meal, a book that I have always wanted, etc) with some of that saved money - that helps me to stay motivated.

    All the best.
