    The indications of Surgery for goitre are usually :

    1- large goitres causing pressure symptoms ( difficult breathing, swallowing ect) 

    2- Risk of malignancy , if the goitre has large nodules which usually needs a needle biopsy

    3- Retrosternal Goitre , when the goitre has grown into the chest which can be a difficult problem is left untreated

    4- Cosmotic , if causing disfigurment due to large growth in the neck
