  • Q&A with Australian Health Practitioners

Can congenital heart disease be diagnosed while the baby is still inside the womb?

I am currently 12 weeks pregnant and I would like to know if this condition can be diagnosed before my baby is born through routine scans.

Yes, congenital heart disease can be diagosed in fetal life. I would suggest that you have a fetal ultrasound at 20 weeks to check the baby.
