Any GP or local hospital will be able to carry out testing for STIs. All consultations are confidential. You can also have a sexual health check up at a sexual health clinic or family planning clinic, which are generally only found in larger towns. Testing may include urine or blood tests or taking swabs from the genital area. If you are a woman living in Queensland the Health Information Line on 3839 9988 or 1800 017 676 (toll free outside Brisbane) can help you find a service in your local area.

STD check for both men and women can usually be done on a blood and urine test. A standard STD check will involve a blood test for HIV, hepatitis B,C,HIV and urine tests for Chlamydia, Gonococcus and Trichomonas. When there are symptoms then the tests are modified and may involve swabs. But the good news is that swabs are often not necessary!
