How can I prevent Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)?

Can you prevent getting OCD or is it hereditary? My fathers side of the family suffers from OCD, my grand father had it and my uncle too. I am starting a family soon and want to know how i can prevent my kids getting it?

There is currently no sure way to prevent OCD, however early intervention and treatment may prevent OCD symptoms from worsening and can ensure an effective means of managing obsessive thoughts without relying on compulsive behaviours.
