Wearing an old retainer to help straighten teeth

I got my braces off 5.5 years ago and wore my retainer for a year straight. Afterwards, I have worn it once or twice a year for a couple of weeks then stop. When I put in my top and bottom retainers, in the first initial minute it is tight but then it becomes comfortable and I can sleep with it.

The reason why I am asking is that I have just recently started wearing them again and I have noticed that on the bottom retainer (the tooth where the mouth curves) the wire that holds the front teeth is just touching that tooth on top.

Can I still wear the retainer even though it isn't painful, just tight how it usually is? And use my retainer to help push my teeth back where they newly got positioned?
