Long term use of salicylic acid cream

I've been using salicylic acid 5% in aqueous cream for over 12 months now. I have been applying it to my legs, arms and sometimes facial areas. It was originally prescribed to clear up crusty areas and blemishes that may develop into BCC/SCC skin cancers. It seems to be working well. I have had no side effects thus far.
Is it safe to use this cream indefinitely? -
