    Surgery for non-malignant thyroid enlargement?

The pathologist's report says: "The smears are markedly paucicellular however features seen are in keeping with a colloid goitre. A repeat evaluation in three to six months may be considered if surgical management is not considered at this stage". Blood tests show thyroid function is normal. Scans show multiple nodules, mostly on the left, and displacement of the trachea. I'm an Aussie living in Kenya. The endocrinologist here recommends surgery. I'd like to explore other options. At this stage the goitre just causes coughing occasionally and the need to watch my neck position when sleeping or walking up hills.
