  • Q&A with Australian Health Practitioners

    Can I choose to have a C-section?

I have had two children naturally but my first was 2.44kg and my second was almost 9 pounds. the first labour took 45minutes from start to finish the second was 30 minutes. As can be expected the second labour left me with lots of stitches and very painful scarring and I also had some heavy bleeding which the doctor thought I may need surgery. I'm planning to have my third but I want a c section however the doctor in Goulburn thinks that this is unreasonable. Can I demand a c section? Or how do I find a doctor who will do a c section?

Sounds like a traumatic experience that has scarred you more than physically.

If you were my private patient I would be happy to agree to your request and do an elective Caesarean section next time.

You can’t force that doctor in Goulburn to do a Caesarean section, but you can shop around and find an obstetrician who will. Mind you I suspect you will need to look outside Goulburn.
