Blepharitis is a common cause of eye irritation and presents with many symptoms and signs. Patients often complain of burning and gritty eyes, worse in the mornings. The signs include scaley and crusty lashes and red eyes. Blepharitis can be treated simply, with a warm compress (perhaps a face washer dipped in warm water) applied to the eyes for several minues. You can also use the face washer to clean the lids to remove the crustiness.
