When your thyroid gland is over or under active, it can interfere with your menstrual cycle and subsequently interfere with ovulation.  This could make conception difficult.  So the first rule when planning a pregnancy is to have your thyroid checked, especially if thyroid disease runs in you family.  Your partner should also have his thyroid checked, as thyroid disease in men may interfere with sperm count and libido.  If a thyroid problem is interfering with your menstrual cycle, it is important to remember that infertility is always temporary when it is caused by either hypo- or hyperthyroidism.  Once the thyroid problem is treated, your cycles should return to normal.
