Graves’ Disease is an autoimmune disorder where the body makes antibodies which attack the thyroid, resulting in overproduction of thyroid hormone. As a result, the patient becomes hyperthyroid (overactive thyroid). In addition to over activity of the thyroid gland, patients may also have symptoms of bulging eyes and/or swelling of the fronts of the lower legs with associated thickening of the skin.
