    TAVI stands for transcathether aortic valve implantation. The aortic valve is the main ‘exit valve’ from the heart, and it can become stiff as people age. TAVI is a technique whereby an artificial heart valve is implanted into the heart usually via the femoral artery in the thigh. This technique is less invasive than the traditional open heart surgery technique, but in some cases open heart surgery is still preferable.
