AF stands for atrial fibrillation and is the most common abnormal heart rhythm. The heart beats randomly, and often too fast, instead of a nice regular rhythm. This condition can be treated in several ways, including medication, a controlled electrical shock (cardioversion) or a procedure called an ablation. People with AF are also at increased risk of stroke (blood clot being pumped into the brain) so they often require blood thinning medication (anticoagulant).
