Colonic polyps are small growths on the inner lining of the large bowel. While most are harmless, some types (adenomas) can slowly develop into colorectal cancer over several years. Finding and removing these polyps during a colonoscopy (polypectomy) safely interrupts this process, making colonoscopy a powerful tool for cancer prevention.
