Calcific tendonitis occurs when calcium deposits form within the rotator cuff tendons. These deposits can cause severe pain, particularly during the “resorptive phase” when the body tries to break down and remove the calcium. The condition is most common in people aged 30–60 and is more frequent in women. While the exact cause is unknown, it’s not related to dietary calcium intake or osteoporosis.
