Adhesive capsulitis, commonly called frozen shoulder, occurs when the capsule (the tissue surrounding the shoulder joint) becomes inflamed, thickened, and tight. This leads to progressive pain and stiffness that typically develops in stages and can significantly limit shoulder movement. The exact cause isn’t fully understood, but it’s more common in people aged 40–60, particularly women.
