    Shoulder arthritis can develop from age-related degeneration (osteoarthritis), previous shoulder injury or fracture, long-standing rotator cuff tears that lead to abnormal joint mechanics, inflammatory arthritis (such as rheumatoid arthritis), avascular necrosis, or previous shoulder surgery. Risk factors include advancing age, family history, previous shoulder trauma, and chronic rotator cuff disease.
