PLC injuries typically occur from direct blows to the inner knee (forcing it outward), hyperextension injuries, or knee dislocations. They’re common in motor vehicle accidents, contact sports, and high-energy trauma. Isolated PLC injuries are rare—they usually occur with cruciate ligament tears.
