PCL tears typically occur from direct force to the front of the shin when the knee is bent (dashboard injury in car accidents), falling onto a bent knee (common in football, rugby), or hyperextension injuries. PCL tears are often accompanied by other ligament injuries (multi-ligament knee injuries).
