The medial collateral ligament (MCL) is a strong band of tissue on the inner side of the knee that provides stability against forces pushing the knee inward. MCL tears are graded from I (mild sprain) to III (complete tear). Unlike ACL tears, MCL tears often heal well without surgery due to the ligament’s good blood supply.
