The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the main ligaments that stabilises the knee, preventing the shin bone (tibia) from sliding forward relative to the thigh bone (femur). An ACL tear is a common sports injury that can be partial or complete. When the ACL is torn, the knee may feel unstable or give way, particularly during pivoting, cutting, or sudden direction changes.
