    Lipomas are typically benign slow growing fatty lumps. They have a very low risk of becoming cancerous and certain features will warrant further investigations ie MRI before surgery is contemplated Size of lipoma 5 cm or more in size Pain in surrounding tissues Rapid growth of the lipoma Should cancer (liposarcoma) be suspected from imaging, a referral to a specialist sarcoma centre is generally recommended for multidisciplinary management
