    There may be mild discomfort or pain at the injection sites. Local redness or bruising can also occur. Flu-like symptoms with muscle aches are quite uncommon.

    Unwanted muscle weakness is possible. For facial injections, this may cause temporary asymmetry (eg. uneven forehead appearance). Injections around the neck can result in swallowing difficulties. These effects are temporary and usually resolve over several weeks as the toxin's effect wears off. There are no known permanent side effects.

    Patients who receive long-term and frequent botulinum toxin injections may develop resistance to treatment, but this is uncommon.
