No, most patients do not find the procedure painful because sedation is typically used. You will either receive "conscious sedation," which keeps you relaxed but awake, or deep sedation (propofol), which puts you in a sleep-like state during the exam. Most patients feel comfortable and often don’t remember much about the procedure afterward.
