    A colonoscopy is a medical procedure that allows a doctor, typically a gastroenterologist, to examine the lining of the colon (large intestine) using a flexible, steerable instrument called a colonoscope. This procedure is used to detect abnormalities such as polyps, cancer, inflammation, or other gastrointestinal conditions. It can also serve as both a diagnostic and therapeutic tool since polyps or abnormal tissue can be removed during the same procedure.
