Preparation for surgery involves several steps:

    1. Follow preoperative instructions: Your surgeon will provide specific guidelines, including when to stop eating or drinking before the procedure. Typically, you are advised not to eat or drink after midnight the night before surgery.

    2. Medication review: Your surgeon and anaesthetist will review your current medications. Some medications, such as blood thinners (e.g., aspirin or ibuprofen), may need to be stopped days before surgery.

    3. Hygiene: You may be instructed to shower with antimicrobial soap the night before and/or the morning of surgery.

    4. Avoid certain products: Do not wear makeup, lotion, deodorant, perfume, or nail polish on the day of surgery as these can interfere with monitoring equipment or pose safety risks.

    5. Plan ahead: Please arrange transportation home if undergoing outpatient surgery and ensure someone is available to accompany you home postoperatively.
