Yes, they can be dangerous if left untreated. While many hernias are not immediately life-threatening, complications such as incarceration (when tissue becomes stuck) and strangulation (when blood supply to the tissue is cut off) can occur. These complications may lead to severe pain, intestinal blockage, and even tissue death (necrosis), requiring emergency surgery.
