Many people with gallstones do not experience symptoms (asymptomatic), but symptomatic cases often present with pain and digestive issues. Symptoms occur when a gallstone blocks the flow of bile through the biliary tract.

    Common symptoms include:

    • Sudden, intense pain in the upper right abdomen (biliary colic).

    • Pain between the shoulder blades or in the right shoulder.

    • Nausea or vomiting.

    • Indigestion or bloating after meals.

    • Jaundice (yellowing of skin/eyes) if a blockage occurs.

Pain episodes may last from minutes to hours and often occur after eating fatty meals.
