There are many reasons why a general practitioner may suggest you see a gastroenterologist. We assess and treat patients with conditions affecting the entire gastrointestinal tract and organs including the oesophagus, stomach, small and large bowel, pancreas, and liver. Symptoms you might have experienced include diarrhoea, constipation, bloating, reflux, heart burn, or abdominal pain. You may have had an abnormality on blood tests, ultrasound, CT, or stool test. Those without symptoms may be referred due to family history of colon cancer or for surveillance of polyps.
