    Endoscopy is the general term used to describe a procedure where a camera is inserted into the body to examine internal organs or body cavities from the inside. A gastroscopy is where a camera on the end of a long thin tube is inserted through the mouth into the oesophagus (food pipe), stomach and first bit of the small bowel (duodenum). A colonoscopy is where a camera in inserted through the anus into the large bowel to look for polyps (growths of tissue) or other disease.
