Treatment is initially non-operative unless symptoms are severe. This consists of changes to activities, wearing a wrist splint (often at night time), and taking simple pain relief medications including non-steroidal anti-inflammatories.

A steroid injection into the carpal tunnel is sometimes recommended to decrease both the inflammation around the nerve and swelling in the tunnel. If symptoms are mild this treatment is often successful.
