As with arthritic conditions, considerations for any surgical interventions are guided entirely by the patient’s symptoms and functional limitations. Non-operative treatments such as activity modification (restricting activities to things that are not painful), weight loss, anti-inflammatory medications and simple pain killers must have been exhausted before surgery is recommended.
