As with any surgery, there are risks, including infection, bleeding, and adverse reactions to anesthesia. Specific complications for hernia repair include recurrence of the hernia, chronic pain, and, rarely, damage to surrounding structures. However, hernia surgery is generally safe and effective with a low complication rate.
