Bunion surgery can be done with open surgery involving a larger incision or percutaneously using special burrs and x-ray. Percutaneous techniques are becoming the gold standard for the treatment of bunions. Most of the recovery from bunions occurs in the first 6 weeks but allow up to 6 months for everything to mature and settle. Percutaneous keyhole techniques have reduced pain swelling and stiffness following bunion surgery compared to traditional open techniques.
