3D printing is being used in total ankle replacement to provide patient specific custom designed jigs that allow a more accurate and predictable process to insert the total ankle replacement. In some cases a patient specific metal 3D printed prosthesis can be used to provide a custom solution for a difficult problem that standard implants are not able to treat effectively. 3D CT based planning and printing has allowed us to very accurately analyse a given deformity and design customised solutions. At the MQ Health Limb Reconstruction Centre we are unique in our ability to use 3D modelling and computer aided design to develop customised solutions for our patients.
