    An ACL tear is common and is one of the more serious injuries amongst young people. Also known as an ACL rupture, the injury usually occurs as a result of athletic activity, contact or non-contact sport but can happen during other activity or movement of the knee.

    Most ACL injuries occur during the following instances:

    • Changing direction rapidly

    • Pivoting or sidestepping manoeuvres

    • Landing from a jump incorrectly

    • Stopping suddenly

    • Receiving a direct blow to the knee
