This assessment is determined on an individual basis by your surgeon whereby your weight, duration and other treatments tried are taken into account. The Body Mass Index is the standard tool for categorising the degree of overweight and obesity. Obesity is defined when the BMI is greater than 30, and a person may be eligible for surgery depending on the impact the condition has on their health.
