Calcific tendonitis progresses through several phases. In the early stages, a portion of the tendon undergo transformation such that calcium deposits form and enlarge, sometimes causing symptoms. An inflammatory reaction may occur, and the calcium deposits may leak into surrounding tissue, causing severe pain. In the later stages, the deposits can be reabsorbed and slowly disappear, and your tendons may start to heal.
