Calcific tendonitis is a condition caused by calcium deposits forming within your tendons. If these calcium deposits grow bigger or become inflamed, they can cause severe pain.

The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that keep the shoulder stable and help it to move. While calcium can be deposited anywhere in the body, the most common area is on the tendon in the rotator cuff called the supraspinatus tendon.

It is one of the most painful conditions of the shoulder. It can be associated with other issues affecting the shoulder eg bursitis, frozen shoulder and rotator cuff tendonitis.
