Overall, there have been a variety of different treatment options available for glaucoma, and the most appropriate option will vary depending on the specific case. In general, the goal of treatment is to lower eye pressure in order to prevent or reduce damage to the optic nerve. I use selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT), a laser procedure, as first line treatment. A combination of laser and surgery may be necessary in some cases. Should management need to be scaled up, the surgical option is MIGS (minimally invasive glaucoma surgery), a relatively new surgical technique that has shown promise in treating glaucoma with a good body’s of published clinical evidence.
